In September 2012,
Detroit-based dynamo MYKE MURDER dropped #SHEEPLE.
#SHEEPLE has been criminally slept on thus far,
perhaps people don't like the Truth.
Acknowledge the depth of
MURDERCORP's video
for #PROPAGANDA.
Upon first hearing #SHEEPLE,
I knew I wanted to interview the
intelligent force behind this great album.
As one would imagine,
MYKE MURDER is an incredibly busy individual.
World Domination is an all-consuming task
that takes 25 hours a day.
Luckily, the iLLuminati gave us both
a day off so we could conduct this interview.

What is your first
Sonic memory?
Man, I don’t even think I can accurately pinpoint when it
was that I had my first connection with music.
It’s like it’s always been a natural thing to pursue for me, I was just
drawn to musical performance.
I grew up
on pretty much on mainstream pop. It was
what all the other kids in elementary school were listening to, and at the
time, of course your just follow what’s “in”.
Then in 4th grade it all changed for me. I was introduced to bands like Insane Clown
Posse and Slipknot and they really fucked my head musically, because I had only
been accustomed to all this bubblegum shit.
So to hear songs like “Bugz On My Nutz” or “People=Shit”…it
was like my dose of raw reality. And from
there I was fucking hooked.
How has living
in/around Detroit shaped your psyche and affected your Music?
Coming out of High school, I would say my mind was very
narrow. I didn't go out to the city
much; most of the things I experienced were vicariously through TV (before I
stopped watching) or the internet. Then
I started schooling in Detroit, and was spending 4-5 days a week in the
city. Not always just at school, but
hanging out around Downtown after, or Bobs Classic Kicks for local Hip Hop
shows.
just meeting new people
from pretty much every culture was experience I'd say it expanded my horizons a
lot. I really love Detroit, and it's a
fucking shame when people talk all this shit about the city, because where
people see decrepit buildings and foreclosed structures, I see potentials for
art and growth.
You can hear the cities
influence specifically on tracks like “$laves” which hold a heavy
industrialized sound. I think we’ve all
at one time or another felt like slaves to the dollar, so being in the city
helped me put it all together musically and lyrically focus on what I was
trying to say.
How do you feel about
MTV and BET?
I think both MTV and BET, or really any main station on the
TV has the capacity to be a great thing. The thing is, the industry doesn't use
what they have at their disposal properly.
The problem starts when it starts becoming
less about ideas, and more about dollars, all kinds of advertising, all kinds
of junk. And that’s where it comes back
full circle to “$laves”.
It’s almost
like we can’t make a decision about anything in life unless we attach the
dollar amount to it, and that really sucks the soul out of the process of
creation. It becomes all about the
finance instead of the idea, and that’s why I feel shit is whack as fuck right
now.
So when I see channels like MTV/BET
supporting artists like myself, Dee-1, Prience Ea, and a couple of these other
cats out here spitting the real knowledge, that’s when I’ll give them the green
light my opinion. Till then it’s just
blunts and hoes.
What is the last
interesting book that you've read?
The main one I’m into right now is called Propaganda by Edward Bernays. It’s about how the invisible government via
the mass media manipulates and shapes the way society runs. Understanding the psychology of why people do
the things they do is a must for me, especially trying to educate with my music
as much as entertain.
What are your future
plans?
I’m excited because right now there’s a lot in the works. Even though I just dropped Sheeple I have a new full length in
production titled “Welcome to
MURDERCORP.©” which is currently scheduled to drop December 21st
2012 (the day the world ends). And that
I feel it’s basically the exposing of
MURDEROCORP.© to the world.
Also I am
one half of an electronic/dubstep duo known as brainWAV, we’re releasing a full
length titled “White Noise” soon. Other
than that, more videos!
A lot more videos! But not just music videos, my second passion is directing so I’m gonna
be working on a lot of visuals in the end of 2012/13. And finally as wonky as it might sound at the
moment, there is plans for the release and showing of a live on stage
MURDERCORP.© musical. So it’s safe to
say I’m goin to be busy the next few months…
Can you tell me some
specifics about what “MURDERCORP. ©” actually is? How would you explain it to someone who’s
never heard of you?
MURDERCORP. © is the epitome of the mindless corruption in America. I
have to make it clear to draw the line between Myke Murder and MURDERCORP.©
. Myke Murder is a hip-hop hero, who
strives to undo everything MURDERCORP.© has done to society, which essentially
is a mental dumbing down of the people.
It’s seeing what’s happening from both sides, and exposing it for what
it is, a fucking scam.
Who would you like to
collaborate with in the Future?
I just finished a remix of a track with an artist named Dee-1. He’s a real smart cat from Louisiana
spreading that positivity and intellect, so make sure you watch out for
him. But future to come, I’d love to do
a track with Immortal Technique, Prince Ea, and also Hopsin. All those dudes are at a level with it that
is past rhyming, and I feel like we would have some good chemistry and a
greater message going in.
How do you feel about
cough medicine?
Haha, we all have our things.
Personally I’m more of a stimulant guy if we’re talking drugs. When I start slowing my mind down I get in a
super unproductive state which ultimately brings me to an unhappy state, I like
to stay busy. I could go into a whole
thing about how prescription drugs are in part a plot to keep citizens
oppressed mentally, but for now let’s just say that drugs aren’t good or bad,
but the choices you make when using drugs can be either.
What does the future
look like?
It really depends where we take it.
Right now, it’s looking a lot like that one movie Idiocracy. But I think with
the whole “2012 December” thing nearing, people are going to be starting to
think more about the other side of life, which is death.
And when you start thinking about death, you
start to react to life differently, because you realize how fragile and
important this experience right now is.
So I’m hoping with a conscious shift we will be headed to a more
integrated, meaningful existence with each other as humans, not blacks, whites,
haves and have not’s.
Any film or directing aspirations?
Man, I’ve been a super hero fan my entire life.
It is the thing that matches music most as a passion of mine. So I see all these super hero movies coming
out, and I’m always thinking “man I could have done this or that.” Or “this part should have been like this or
focused on this”.
So although it might
be a far off thing, I would really like to get my hands into directing full
lengths one day, preferably a super hero flick.
Doesn’t matter the character, I can make anything work. It wouldn’t be work, it’d be love. And I think that’s what a lot of these directors
are missing. They have the framework,
and they’ve done the studying…but there’s no love.
Who would you like to
tour with?
I’d really just like to tour with my friends, haha. Sky (SKYWLKR) has been out with Danny (Brown)
for the past couple months with Childish Gambino, Ab-Soul and Schoolboy Q, just
doing all kinds of shit. And I’ve been
holding it down at home because I’ve had to be here, finishing my album and
organizing my brand.
Even though I don’t
really think I fit into that “hip shock value” scene, I would like to be out
kicking it with my dudes. On a more futuristic
note I’d like to get in with someone like Tech N9ne or Mac Lethal. Tech was the kind of dude lyrically showing
me growing up like “Fuck someone if they say you can’t do it”, “Fuck a label if
they won’t support you”.
And if we want
to talk about real super fantasy shit, I’d give a testicle to tour with Death
Grips or Die Antwoord. Both those groups
have been pushing music to a different level, and I’m all about that.
What should we be
looking for on the horizon from Murder Myke?
Fuck Myke Murder….One word: MURDERCORP.©
